EMS Week
The goal of Paramedic/EMS Week is to bring local communities and Paramedics together to publicize the service we provide to the countless patients we see everyday 24/7. Simcoe County Paramedics kicked off Paramedic Week on May 22nd with Paramedic for a Day event won by Grade 5 Student from Fieldcrest Elementary Ryan Horlings.
The day began with ceremonies at County Council with Simcoe County Warden Tony Guergis presenting Ryan with certification as a Paramedic for a Day. This followed by a tour of Georgian CACC and responding priority code 4 to a MVC providing immediate care to the patient with the assistance from fellow crew members Costas Bilissis and Shawn Ridsdale.
Also on May 22nd, A-Channel Niome Parason rode along with Paramedics Shannon Scott and Matt Zettle interviewing the roles and responsibilities on what Simcoe County Paramedics do everyday. From May 23rd – 25th, Paramedics distributed more than 2,000 Vial of Life Vials to citizens in Collingwood, Midland, Alliston, Orillia and Barrie. The SCPA would like to thank Wal-Mart Pharmacies in Collingwood and Midland for donating an additional 4,000 vials to the VOL Program. In addition, almost $300.00 in unsolicited donations was made in support of the Vial of Life Program.
EMS Week came to an end on May 26th with Paramedic Demonstrations and Ambulance Display at Georgian Mall. Events included distribution of VOL Vials, information on Simcoe County PAD Program, free blood pressure clinic and displaying the various paramedic equipment used today. Many citizens were pleased with positive comments on the service currently being provided to the state-of-art Ambulance with the new Simcoe County design that was on display.
